Valerian Valeriana officinalis root - Herbs of the Gods
Disponibilidade: Indisponível
History
Valerian originally growths in Europe and parts of Asia, but has been brought to North-America by the colonists. It is a nicely flowering plant. Its pink or white flowers have a nice, sweet smell. These flowers have been used to make perfumes from the 16th century onwards. Fun fact; the 17th century astrologist Nicholas Culpeper thought that the plant was under the effect of Mercury “and therefore has a warming faculty”.
Valeriana Officinalis is sometimes referred to as “all heal”, because of its many effective properties. Valerian is used to relax the muscles, to induce sleep (against insomnia), or to reduce the level of stress. It has positive working on the nervous system and lowers the blood pressure. Valeriana Officinalis is a sedative pain reliever that also works against migraine. Consumption helps with overall relaxation and anxiety problems.
Use
Mix a couple of teaspoons of the herb with half a litre of water. Let it boil for about 5 minutes with a lit on top, to not let the healing vapours escape from the drink. Let it cool down a bit before drinking. The effects against insomnia can take about 2-4 weeks before they become effective, when drinking the tea on a daily basis.
