Origin of the Yellow Umbo

Yoshi Amano has made mycological history by creating the first documented cross between two different Psilocybe species. His Yellow Umbo, a hybrid between Psilocybe cubensis ‘Jack Frost’ and what was previously known as P. natalensis (now Psilocybe ochraceocentrata), represents a breakthrough in magic mushroom cultivation.

Yoshi worked closely with Kilor Diamond on this groundbreaking project. Together, they developed new techniques necessary to make this challenging hybridisation possible. We are honoured to now offer this strain in a Cloud920® Ready-2-Grow Bag.

The Unique Experience of Yellow Umbo

Yellow Umbo offers a special psychedelic experience that clearly distinguishes itself from cubensis mushrooms. Users describe a remarkably clear mental state during the trip, allowing you to think and communicate more clearly than with traditional species.

What makes this hybrid truly special is the combination of intense visual effects with minimal physical strain. You experience vivid visual patterns without the heaviness or discomfort that sometimes occurs with other species. Some even compare it to a ‘hippie flip’ (mushrooms + MDMA), but completely natural from one mushroom.

The trip comes on more gradually, which causes less anxiety during the initial phase. This makes Yellow Umbo more accessible, although the higher potency means that you need less than with standard cubensis species.

How to store this Yellow Umbo mushroom grow kit correctly

It is recommended to start the cultivation process as soon as you receive the grow kit. If you decide to start growing later, which can affect the quality of the box, you can store the grow kit in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks (2°C to 8°C). You can leave the grow bag with mycelium in the box and place it in the refrigerator. Make sure your refrigerator is clean and free of mould. You can place it in a clean plastic bag as an extra precaution.

Instructions for the Yellow Umbo grow kit

What do you need?

• Clean workspace - Work cleanly to prevent other fungi and bacteria from contaminating your grow kit.
• Drinking water - Always use clean tap or mineral water for misting and soaking. Never use distilled or demi water.

Room preparation

• Close all doors and windows and let the air in the room settle so that no draughts can blow unwanted contaminants into your grow bag.
• When you take the grow bag out of the box, only place it on freshly disinfected surfaces.
• Make sure you work with clean hands and arms. We suggest using surgical gloves and/or a good disinfectant to clean your hands and arms when handling the kit. Use a face mask to prevent you from breathing in the grow bag and on the cake.

Starting the process

• Remove the bag from the box and roll it out.
• Open the bag and allow fresh air to flow in by pulling the sides apart; immediately close the bag again with the clip.
• Place the elastic around the bag at the same height as the top of the substrate to reduce side growth.
• Place the kit in a clean and comfortable environment for the mushrooms. The ideal temperature is 23 degrees, do not place them in the dark and never in direct sunlight.

⚠️ CRUCIAL DAILY CARE ⚠️

Yellow Umbo requires daily ventilation! Unlike the other growbags, you must open the Yellow Umbo bag EVERY DAY to allow fresh air in. This is essential for optimal growth and yield:

• Open the bag once a day for 30 seconds
• Let fresh, clean air flow into the bag
• Then carefully close the bag with the clip
• Skip this step as little as possible - daily ventilation is crucial for the success of your Yellow Umbo cultivation!
• Wait patiently. Yellow Umbo colonises quickly, but it takes about 2 to 3 weeks until harvest time.
