History
This magnificent cactus is native to the Andes mountains in Peru. The Peruvian Torch is a stunning plant that resembles the San Pedro, but with a lighter bluish-green colour, large white flowers and longer thorns..
And here's another fascinating fact! The gorgeous white flowers only open in the evening, and then only for one evening!
Growing Peruvian torch from seeds
- The Peruvian Torch (Trichocereus peruvianus) cactus is an absolute delight to cultivate! For the best results, use a sterilised mix of sand, perlite and gravel (or peat) to grow this magnificent plant.
- Time to get your growing container spick and span! Give it a thorough clean and a good desinfectant to make sure it's nice and ready to welcome your new plant. Be sure to add small drainage holes in the growing container to help reduce the chances of over-watering.
- Keep those young cacti safe and sound by avoiding direct sunlight for the first three months. Fluorescent lighting is the way to go!
- Don’t let the young cacti get in contact with direct sunlight; fluorescent lighting is preferred for the first 3 months.
- Once your cacti have reached a year old, it's time to move them into direct light!
