How to store the grow kit correctly

For the best results, start the cultivation process right away. If you start growing later, you may store the grow kit in the refrigerator (2°C to 8°C) for 2 weeks. First, wrap the grow kit in a clean (plastic) shopping bag and close it well.

Instructions for the grow kit

Once your kit arrives, try to set it up immediately. If that’s impossible, refrigerate the growbox in an airtight plastic bag at 2-6°C to induce “hibernation mode”. You can store it in the fridge for up to two weeks. Since it is a fresh product, the sooner you start the bigger the harvest.

1. Remove the lid and fill the grow box with clean water until it’s full. Then, put the lid back on and leave the water in for about 10 hours, putting the kit in the fridge.
2. After 10 hours, take the lid off again, clean it under running water, and save it for later. Then, pour the excess water out of the box.
3. Pour around 150 ml of clean tap water into the grow bag, but next to the grow box. Put the grow kit inside, and use the spray bottle to mist the sides of the bag; maintaining a humidity level of 95-100% throughout the growth cycle.
4. Fold the top of the grow bag and secure the fold with clips. Keep the kit in a bright place away from direct sunlight, ideally at 22-25°C.
5. Ventilate the kit by opening it. Push the sides of the bag together so the old air can get out, and pull the sides of the bag apart again to suck in fresh air. This way, you will remove the CO2 buildup at the bottom of the bag.
6. Mushrooms should be ready for harvesting after 2-4 weeks. Once you get to harvesting, take all the Mushrooms—even the tiny ones.
7. After the first harvest, refresh the kit for the next cycle. One kit is good for at least two growth cycles. To re-use, go through steps 1-7 again.

Temperature

The ideal temperature is 24°C. Do not have the temperature drop under 21°C and not exceed 29°C. To keep the temperature from dropping under the 21°C, you can use a Thermo Heatingmat
to maintain the ideal temperature. A thermo mat is a must-have in the winter or colder regions of the world. Make sure to place spacers between the heatmat and the growkit so it does not overheat.

Light

The Magic Mushroom Grow Kit only needs indirect light for the mycelium to ‘understand’ it has reached the surface. Only then will mushrooms grow. A few hours of fluorescent/artificial light or indirect sunlight a day is more than enough. Direct sunlight kills the mycelium, so avoid letting the sun shine directly on the grow kit.

Water / Ventilation

The humidity in the bag is good as long as you see condensation on the sides of the growbag. If there is no condensation, the temperature is too low (less than 21 degrees) or it needs more water. If it needs more water open up the bag, squeeze the bag together to refresh the air and then give it a 1-4 sprays of water. Do not spray directly on the cake; spray one time against every side of the bag. Right after misting, close the bag again with the paperclips.

Mushrooms

If the conditions are optimal, the Mushrooms can appear between 14 and 28 days. This grows slower than others.

Flushes

Mushrooms come up in groups, also called flushes or growth cycles. Each flush can be small or large. Mushrooms are rarely pickripe at the same time. You can get more than one flush out of a kit. The first two flushes are the largest. When more flushes come, they will be smaller than the previous one.

Picking Mushrooms that grow from the sides

Mushrooms grow where the light reaches and where there is little penetrating resistance. Because the cake has light shining on the sides, the Mushrooms might also grow there. It is hard to counter this, and it can be allowed. Some growers wrap the sides of the grow box in aluminium foil to keep the sides dark, but this doesn’t always work well.

When Mushrooms grow there, they can be picked just before you soak the kit:

Clean hands! Take the grow box out of the bag and place it upside down on your other hand. Wiggle the plastic box so that the cake falls out onto your hand. The plastic box can be placed on a disinfected surface. Now, you have this hand free to pick the Mushrooms from the sides of the cake. When all the Mushrooms are picked, you can place the cake back in the plastic box and move on to the soaking process.

Soaking

After all the Mushrooms have been picked, you prepare the kit for the next flush. Again, with disinfected hands or gloves, take the grow box out of the grow bag. Fill the box with fresh, potable water. Take the lid out of the ziplock bag and use it to close the grow box. Place the closed grow box in a soaking bag, or use your own clean plastic shopping bag and wrap it around the box. Close it well and place it in a refrigerator (2°C to 8°C) for 8-12 hours. This is called the soaking process. Water will soak through the cake, preparing it for the next flush.

During the soaking, you can hang the grow bag with the micron filter upside down to dry. Make sure to hang it upside down so no microorganisms will access the bag. Many growers prefer to use new and unused grow bags after every flush, or to desinfect it with alcohol before reusing it.

After 8-12 hours take grow box out from the fridge and unpack it.

Next Flush

To continue, follow the same steps 1 – 7 as before when you started the process for the first time. Several days later, a new flush will appear. You can get at least 2 flushes out of a Magic mushroom grow kit. If you are experienced in cultivating, you can get more flushes from a kit.
